An Electric Fireplace Insert can achieve the ambiance of a real fireplace without the mess or maintenance. It is also a great option for an unsafe or otherwise non-functioning fireplace. Once recent customer of ours did not use his fireplace but complained of a smokey smell and a cold downdraft. He wanted ambiance and convenience. We showed him a variety of electric fireplaces and eventually settled on one that fit his fireplace.
We sealed his damper shut after stuffing a roll of insulation to help with the cold down draft and prevent heat loss from the home. After a custom surround was made and powder coated, the fireplace was ready to install.
We elected to run an extension cord through his ash dump into the basement to conceal the electrical cord, mounted the custom surround, and slid the fireplace into place. He now has the ambiance of a fire without the mess and the convenience of remote operation. He couldn’t be happier!
His chimney exterior needed additional work as well.
We installed a crown-mounted stainless steel multi-flue cap to prevent water entry, tuckpointed areas of his chimney where mortar had fallen away, sealed the top of his crown, and applied Chimney Saver Waterproofing to the entire chimney exterior for long lasting protection from freezing and thawing of moisture.
We achieved all our customer’s desires with the electric fireplace insert, and prevented his chimney from suffering damage from water entry. A dry chimney is imperative to a long-standing chimney.
